Interning at NBC10 has to be one of the most exciting experiences I have encountered. Not only did it give me the opportunity to meet Tom Brady and all the other Patriots players, I got to work during one of the biggest elections of my generation and find out who the President of the United States was 30 seconds before it was broadcasted to the world. I met people from all walks of life interviewing and investigating on the streets of Rhode Island with various news reporters. When my house was robbed during Hurricane Sandy, I had a station that had my back and did a story on us. I even got perks of eating free food, and getting two free tickets to seeing the musical Elf.
Ever since high school being an anchor for the morning news I always knew I wanted to work in television. When I got the call that I was hired for the internship, it was like I could see everything I’ve worked for falling into place. The very first day of my internship felt like it was yesterday. Seeing all the reporters and anchors star struck me a little bit and I couldn’t believe that I was going to be coming to the station two days a week to work with people that had my dream job. And as every day passed I started to see myself more and more being a reporter as my career.
Throughout the semester I have learned a lot about how a news station is run. I have learned how the structure of a show is evolved and how all different careers in the station work as a team that all have the same goal, reporting to the community critical information that will help their well-being.
The career I learned the most about is the news reporting. I went out with various reporters to see how they do their stories. I learned different hints and tips and various information about how to do a story correctly. I am now able to produce, write a script, film it, edit it, and then present it live. I learned to use the cameras, edit in their editing booths, use certain language when writing the scrips, research news, etc.
This job fits me the most because I get bored easily. I need something exciting in my life to keep me entertained and to motivate me. This job is not boring at all, and every reporter said when you come across a boring slow day its a relief. The job is all about communicating with people and having a natural curiosity about how everything in the world works and why it works that way. These are two qualities that I posses. It is like having a front row seat to history and I love that.
